Brad Pitt speaks out in a rare interview on finalising divorce from Angelina Jolie after 8 years
Brad Pitt has spoken publicly — albeit briefly — about the long-awaited finalisation of his divorce from Angelina Jolie. In a rare interview with GQ, the Hollywood actor dismissed the legal milestone as “not that major of a thing,” downplaying what many had viewed as the dramatic close of one of Hollywood’s most scrutinised break-ups.
Pitt, now promoting his upcoming film F1: The Movie, offered his reflections on both the media circus around his personal life and the toll of nearly a decade-long divorce process.
“My personal life is always in the news,” he told GQ, adding with a weary shrug, “It’s been in the news for 30 years, bro. Or some version of my personal life, let’s put it that way.”
The divorce, officially finalised earlier this year, marked the end of proceedings that began in September 2016, when Jolie filed for separation days after a now-infamous alleged incident aboard a private jet. Pitt was accused of verbally and physically assaulting both Jolie and their then-15-year-old son Maddox. He was later cleared of criminal charges, but the allegations cast a long shadow over the years that followed.
Despite the media storm, Pitt appeared unfazed when asked whether the finalisation offered any sense of closure. “No, I don’t think it was that major of a thing,” he replied. “Just something coming to fruition. Legally.”
It’s the kind of comment that hints at emotional detachment — or perhaps weariness — from a process that has unfolded under public scrutiny since day one. Now aged 60, Pitt has grown accustomed to being the subject of headlines that often have little to do with his work.
Asked if the filming of F1 provided any kind of escape from the glare of the tabloids, he offered a more philosophical view: “It’s been an annoyance I’ve had to always deal with in different degrees, large and small, as I do the things I really want to do. So, it’s always been this kind of nagging time suck or waste of time, if you let it be that. I don’t know. I don’t know.”
Still, there was a glimpse into the softer rhythms of his life now. “My life is fairly contained,” he said. “It feels pretty warm and secure with my friends, with my loves, with my fam, with my knowledge of who I am, that, you know, it’s like this fly buzzing around a little bit.”
Pitt’s comments mark one of the few times he has publicly addressed the finality of his split from Jolie, with whom he shares six children. The couple, once dubbed “Brangelina,” were the golden couple of Hollywood before their high-profile split unravelled both their private and public lives.
Now, with F1: The Movie set for release on 27 June, Pitt seems determined to steer the spotlight back to his craft. The film, co-starring Damson Idris, places him in the fast-paced world of Formula One, and early previews suggest a sleek, high-octane drama that could reignite his box office draw.
Whether or not the press will allow him to keep his private life in the rear-view mirror remains to be seen. But one thing is clear — for Pitt, the road ahead is one he’s choosing to drive on his own terms
