Woman, 71, dies after brutal fight outside Lidl as cops arrest man and woman for manslaughter

A quiet afternoon in a Worcestershire town turned violent on Wednesday, when a 71-year-old woman died following a brutal altercation outside a Lidl supermarket. Police have arrested a man and a woman on suspicion of manslaughter in connection with the incident, which has shocked the local community.

The disturbing scene unfolded outside the Lidl in Stourport, where four individuals were reportedly involved in a violent confrontation. According to West Mercia Police, both the elderly woman and a 65-year-old man were allegedly assaulted by a 62-year-old woman and a 67-year-old man. All four left the scene after the brawl, but the consequences would soon prove tragic.

Later, authorities confirmed the elderly woman had died, triggering a manslaughter investigation. The two suspects were initially arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm but were later re-arrested on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter. Both remain in police custody as officers work to piece together what led to the deadly altercation.

The Lidl store was cordoned off by police tape and forced to close following the incident. Forensic officers could be seen examining the area and taking photographs at the scene as stunned shoppers looked on. The car park remained under investigation late into the evening.

Detective Inspector Warren Matthews from North Worcestershire CID issued an appeal for information. “Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident,” he said. “We’re keen to hear from any witnesses or anyone who may have dash cam footage from Lidl’s car park.”

He urged the public to come forward with any information that might aid their investigation, adding that even the smallest detail could prove vital.

West Mercia Police have also issued a statement urging the public not to speculate online. “Please respect the family’s privacy at this difficult time,” the statement read. “We understand this is a shocking incident for the community, and we are committed to finding out exactly what happened.”

Local residents expressed horror at the violence. Many described Stourport as a peaceful town where such events are virtually unheard of. “It’s frightening to think something like this could happen outside a supermarket in broad daylight,” said one shopper. “You just don’t expect it.”

Police have not yet released the identity of the deceased woman, nor have they commented on what may have triggered the altercation. The nature of the relationship between the four individuals remains unclear, as investigators comb through CCTV footage and witness accounts to build a clearer picture of the events.

For now, the community remains gripped by grief and confusion. The incident has prompted calls for increased security presence in public spaces and raised concerns about the safety of elderly citizens in everyday environments.

The investigation continues, with officers appealing directly to the public: “If you saw anything unusual or suspicious outside the Lidl around the time of the incident, or have dash cam footage that could assist us, please get in touch.”

As the Lidl car park remains a crime scene, the town of Stourport is left reeling from a fatal confrontation that began as an ordinary supermarket visit—and ended in tragedy.
