David Beckham botches DIY haircut, ends up half bald in bathroom disaster

Football icon David Beckham left with a bald patch after a home haircut turns into a comedy of errors

David Beckham has suffered a self-inflicted hair horror that fans won’t soon forget—thanks to a rogue pair of clippers and a questionable decision to ditch the barber’s chair.

The former Manchester United and England captain, famed almost as much for his hairstyles as his footballing brilliance, revealed the damage on Instagram after a home haircut went embarrassingly wrong. In a video shared by wife Victoria Beckham, the 49-year-old looked genuinely devastated as he unveiled a freshly shaved bald patch near the crown of his head—entirely unplanned and very much permanent until it grows back.

“The thing of the clippers fell off,” Beckham admitted, still reeling from the botched buzz.

Victoria, ever the fashion mogul and never short on humour, couldn’t hold back her laughter. “What have you done?” she asked, laughing before deadpanning: “You were trying to give yourself a haircut.”

The former Spice Girl then delivered a crushing blow to her husband’s pride: “It does not look good. I’m going to be honest with you—it looks terrible.”

What began as an attempt to tidy up his usual clean-cut style quickly spiralled into disaster when the guard on Beckham’s clippers slipped off mid-trim. The result? A jagged, uneven scalp revealing a raw patch of skin that had social media in hysterics.

Even their children joined in on the mockery, with Victoria joking, “The hours of content the kids have got from this…”

While Beckham looked visibly deflated, there was little sympathy coming from those around him. Trying to salvage what was left of his dignity—and his hairstyle—he reportedly evened out the rest of his hair to match the accidental bald spot.

This isn’t the first time Beckham’s hair has sparked headlines. From his bleach-blond mop to cornrows and the iconic mohawk, his style choices defined an era of football glamour. But none of those looks were quite as involuntary—or as humiliating—as this one.

During a previous podcast episode of Stick to Football, Beckham recounted how his former manager Sir Alex Ferguson once ordered him to shave off a mohawk moments before walking out for a Charity Shield clash against Chelsea in 2000.

“He looked at me and went, ‘Go and shave it off,’” Beckham said. “I had to get a pair of clippers, go into the changing room at Wembley, and shave it off. Because he wouldn’t have played me.”

Unlike that incident, where Beckham dutifully obeyed a footballing legend, this most recent buzz-cut blunder was entirely self-imposed. Sadly for him, this wasn’t Wembley—it was his own bathroom, and there was no comeback victory to soften the blow.

Despite the debacle, fans flooded the comments with amusement and praise for Beckham’s honesty. The clip has already gone viral, with many praising Victoria’s reaction just as much as her husband’s candour.

For a man who’s graced the covers of magazines, endorsed grooming products, and helped define metrosexual fashion, this new ‘style’ marks a sharp departure. Literally.

Perhaps it’s safe to say that, despite his golden touch on the pitch and in business, “Beckham the Barber” won’t be opening shop anytime soon.
