Two women and a man were charged with murder after Paul Scott died from a single stab wound in Blackburn

Three people have been charged with murder following the death of a man who was fatally stabbed at a home in Blackburn, Lancashire, over the weekend.

Emergency services were called to a property on Peridot Close at approximately 3.40am on Sunday after the North West Ambulance Service reported an injured man at the address. On arrival, police found 37-year-old Paul Scott with a serious stab wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination later confirmed that Mr Scott died from a single stab wound. His family have been informed and are receiving support from specially trained officers.

Lancashire Police launched a murder investigation and arrested three individuals in connection with Mr Scott’s death. On Tuesday, the force confirmed that all three—Liam Donlin, 24, Annie Clegg, 21, and Joanne Maxwell, 43—have been charged with murder. All three suspects are from Lynwood Avenue in Darwen.

The trio are due to appear at Blackburn Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday morning.

Detective Chief Inspector John McNamara, who is leading the investigation, extended condolences to Mr Scott’s family and urged the public to come forward with any relevant information.

“First and foremost, my, and my team’s thoughts remain with Paul’s family and loved ones at what is an incredibly difficult time,” said DCI McNamara. “Three people have now been charged with murder in connection with Paul’s death, but our investigation is very much ongoing.”

He added: “If you saw anything or have any footage that you believe could help our enquiries, even if you think it is insignificant, please do the responsible thing and get in touch.”

Lancashire Police have not released further details about the circumstances leading up to the fatal stabbing, and it remains unclear whether Mr Scott knew the accused. However, officers have stated that they are continuing to piece together the events of that night and are keen to speak with anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident.

Residents living on Peridot Close described being awoken by flashing lights and sirens in the early hours of Sunday morning. One neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said: “It was chaos outside. There were police and ambulances everywhere. It’s scary to think something like this could happen so close to home.”

Officers have conducted door-to-door enquiries and are reviewing any available CCTV and doorbell footage from surrounding properties. Police presence in the neighbourhood remains high as the investigation continues.

This marks the latest in a series of violent incidents in the region, prompting renewed calls for increased police resources and community engagement to tackle knife crime.
