From yoga and hiking to the Mediterranean diet, Cat Deeley shares the simple habits that keep her fit at 48.

Cat Deeley, at 48, is proof that strength doesn’t require grueling workouts. The popular TV host has shared that the gym and heavy running don’t work for her, preferring a much gentler, more holistic approach to fitness. In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, she revealed that yoga, hiking, and tennis, combined with a Mediterranean diet, have become her secret to staying fit and strong.

Deeley has practised yoga for over 20 years. She confessed, “Even though I’ve been practising for so long, I’m no more bendy than the average person, but it makes me feel good.” She credits yoga with giving her mental clarity, saying it helps her “switch off” and focus on her breathing. Despite her long practice, Deeley has never regretted taking just 45 minutes each day for herself. She also incorporates virtual yoga classes into her routine four times a week, using the website Yogaglo to access sessions whenever and wherever she can fit them in.

When she’s not stretching, Deeley’s love for the outdoors shines through. She makes hiking a daily habit, walking for at least 20 minutes with her dog. She described the feeling as “amazing,” emphasizing that you never regret exercise. She credits this routine with giving her a sense of fulfilment and mental calm, explaining how hiking allows her to clear her mind and focus on the moment.

Tennis also plays a key role in her fitness routine, as Deeley enjoys playing with her family. In 2022, she shared a video on Instagram of a tennis match with her loved ones, describing their enthusiasm as “undeniable,” despite their questionable talent.

Deeley doesn’t just rely on exercise to stay fit; her diet plays a major role as well. A firm believer in the Mediterranean diet, she prioritises fresh fruits, vegetables, and moderate amounts of protein. “I like a little bit of everything,” she says, explaining that she enjoys French bread, red wine, and coffee. She advocates for a personalised approach to diet, advising people to listen to their bodies and notice what foods improve their sleep, energy, and skin.

Each morning, Deeley kick-starts her day with a homemade juice made from celery, cucumber, lemon, and ginger. “I often batch make it and keep it in Mason jars in the fridge for when I’m in a rush,” she adds, highlighting how a nutritious start helps her feel energised throughout the day.

Another wellness ritual Deeley swears by is the infrared sauna. She loves how it soothes her muscles and detoxes her system, helping with any aches or pains after her daily activities. This combination of exercise, diet, and recovery has helped Deeley maintain both her physical and mental health as she navigates life at 48.
