Tristan Stubbs’ six guides Delhi Capitals to top spot after dramatic super-over win against Rajasthan Royals

In a nail-biting finish, Delhi Capitals triumphed over Rajasthan Royals in the first super over of the 2025 IPL, securing a thrilling 189-run chase and taking the top spot on the table.

The match, which ended in a tie at 188-5 for Delhi and 188-4 for Rajasthan, saw a sensational performance from Tristan Stubbs, who hammered Sandeep Sharma’s fourth ball of the super over for a six to seal the win. This victory came after Rajasthan’s botched final moments, where key players Riyan Parag and Yashasvi Jaiswal were both run out in a chaotic super-over sequence.

Earlier, Rajasthan’s chase was fueled by an explosive 51 from Jaiswal and a hard-hitting knock from Nitish Rana, who contributed 51 from 28 balls. However, Delhi’s Mitchell Starc delivered a match-winning yorker to dismiss Rana in the 18th over, followed by another brilliant over to keep his team alive. With Rajasthan needing nine from Starc’s last over, Dhruv Jurel’s run out on the final ball set up the dramatic super-over finish.

Delhi’s innings was anchored by opener Abishek Porel, who scored 49 from 37 balls, and key contributions from KL Rahul (38) and captain Axar Patel, who added 34 from just 14 balls. England’s Jofra Archer impressed for Rajasthan, taking 2-32.

With five wins from six matches, Delhi now lead the IPL standings, while Rajasthan’s struggles continue with just two wins from seven matches.
