Florian Wirtz wants Liverpool switch as talks continue over potential record-breaking £120m deal.

Florian Wirtz, one of Europe’s most electrifying young playmakers, has set his sights firmly on Liverpool in what could become a record-breaking transfer saga this summer. The 22-year-old Bayer Leverkusen star has told those close to him that Anfield is his preferred destination—despite concrete interest from Manchester City and Bayern Munich.

Liverpool have already submitted a staggering £105 million offer for the attacking midfielder, making him a top target for new head coach Arne Slot. But Bayer Leverkusen are holding out for a deal closer to £120 million, which would eclipse the current British record fee of £115 million paid by Chelsea for Moises Caicedo in 2023.

Currently in camp with the German national team ahead of their Nations League semi-final clash with Portugal in Munich, Wirtz is believed to be keen to resolve his future before the tournament concludes.

Wirtz is coming off a sensational Bundesliga season, registering 10 goals and 12 assists across 25 starts. His explosive creativity helped Leverkusen finish second behind Bayern Munich, just a year after lifting a league and cup double under Xabi Alonso.

Not only did he lead the league in successful take-ons, Wirtz also ranked top for high turnovers, underlining his relentless pressing and dynamism—qualities that make him a dream fit for Liverpool’s high-octane style.

Despite strong interest from Bayern and Manchester City, sources close to the deal confirm that Wirtz is focused solely on a Premier League move—and specifically to Liverpool. His admiration for the club’s history, passionate fanbase, and attacking philosophy is believed to be a key factor in his preference.

The Reds, meanwhile, are wasting no time. With Arne Slot aiming to reshape his squad early in the transfer window, Wirtz has emerged as a cornerstone of the club’s summer rebuild. Talks have intensified in recent days, and although a deal is not yet sealed, there is growing confidence within Anfield that they will get their man.

Former Bayer Leverkusen assistant Devin Ozek revealed that the club had always seen something special in Wirtz: “He had a unique vision and maturity even at 17. We knew he was destined for a top club.”

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher also gave his blessing to the move, calling Wirtz a guaranteed starter under Slot. “He’s exactly the kind of player Liverpool need,” said Carragher. “Wirtz starts the moment he arrives. I think the next move has to be a centre forward.”

Liverpool have also been linked with Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez at left-back and have reportedly sealed a deal for Jeremie Frimpong, who will battle Conor Bradley for the right-back role.

Despite the heavy investment, Liverpool remain aggressive in the transfer market as they aim to wrestle back Premier League supremacy from Manchester City. Wirtz’s signing would not only bolster the Reds’ midfield creativity but also send a powerful message across Europe.

As it stands, negotiations are continuing behind the scenes, but with Wirtz’s desire clear and Liverpool’s intent unwavering, a blockbuster Premier League move may be only days away
