Sinner praises Boisson’s breakthrough at Roland Garros as she makes history for French tennis.

Jannik Sinner, the top-ranked player in the PIF ATP Rankings, shared a rare and memorable warm-up session on the morning of the Roland Garros quarter-finals with Lois Boisson, the rising Frenchwoman who has made history in Paris.

Boisson, ranked No. 361 on the WTA Tour, has captivated the home crowd with her stunning debut run at the Grand Slam. She became the first woman in the Open Era to reach the Roland Garros semi-finals as a wild card entrant, a feat that electrified French tennis fans.

“It’s amazing, no? I think it’s exactly what France needs: something very new, very special, great mentality,” Sinner told reporters after their practice. He added, “She seems quite calm on the court, at least she seems like it.”

The pair’s connection goes back several years. Sinner recalled, “We were actually in the same centre for a little while back in the days, and we practised sometimes together even there.” Their renewed interaction before the tournament included catching up in the gym and sharing excitement about Boisson’s wild card entry.

Boisson’s journey to this breakthrough has been far from straightforward. She missed Roland Garros last year due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury, making her current success all the more remarkable. At just 22 years old, her debut performance has become a historic moment for French tennis.

Sinner praised Boisson’s playing style, highlighting her consistency and clay-court prowess. “The level she produces is amazing, very consistent, very clay-court style, with the forehand, a lot of topspin,” he noted.

Their practice session proved to be a perfect warm-up. Boisson went on to stun the sixth seed, Mirra Andreeva, furthering her landmark progress in the tournament. Shortly after, Sinner took to Court Philippe-Chatrier where he defeated Alexander Bublik in straight sets, extending his Grand Slam winning streak to 19 matches.

The weather conditions that day made their warm-up all the more important. “It was raining, so I called the desk to see if there was a free spot, because I didn’t want to risk going on court without warming up,” Sinner explained. Boisson immediately agreed, leading to a session that benefited both players.

Sinner described the physicality of Boisson’s game, noting, “The ball is quite high and quite spinny, physically very strong.” He concluded with well wishes for her future, saying, “She deserves to be in the position where she is right now, and we wish her all the best.”

Sinner now turns his attention to the Roland Garros semi-finals where he will face either Novak Djokovic or Alexander Zverev. The 23-year-old Italian aims to become the first Italian male to win at Roland Garros since Adriano Panatta in 1976.

Boisson’s historic run and Sinner’s ongoing quest for a third consecutive major title are among the standout stories of this year’s Roland Garros, capturing the imagination of tennis fans across the globe.
