Katy Perry’s ‘lifetimes’ tour features space themes inspired by her Blue Origin mission.
Katy Perry has blasted off into a new era—literally and figuratively. The pop icon kicked off her Lifetimes tour in Mexico City on 23 April with a space-themed spectacle, clearly drawing inspiration from her recent Blue Origin trip into suborbital space.
Wearing a metallic bodysuit that wouldn’t look out of place aboard a star cruiser, the 40-year-old Teenage Dream singer electrified the stage with a performance that was as galactic as it was glamorous. From shimmering stage visuals resembling nebulae to backup dancers styled like androids, Perry embraced the cosmic theme in full force.
Fans were quick to notice the interstellar cues—particularly when Perry invited two concertgoers dressed in NASA-branded suits to join her on stage for a selfie. “I want these gentlemen to come on stage because they are dressed like my most current timeline,” she joked, referring to her Blue Origin experience earlier this month.

Yet on stage in Mexico, the singer addressed the criticism with playful defiance: “Has anyone ever called your dreams crazy?” she asked the crowd, a not-so-subtle nod to the fallout from her decision to join the all-female space crew aboard the New Shepard flight.
The journey saw Perry float in zero gravity alongside an impressive team that included Lauren Sanchez, fiancée of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos; journalist Gayle King; filmmaker Kerianne Flynn; rocket scientist Aisha Bowe; and astronaut Amanda Nguyen. While in orbit, Perry reportedly sang a few bars of What a Wonderful World, capturing the serenity of space before the capsule returned to Earth.
When the crew landed, Perry knelt and kissed the ground in a gesture of awe and gratitude. The next day, she shared a reflection on Instagram, asking followers, “One day when you’re older, will YOU still look up in wonder?” The caption accompanied a short clip of her gazing out at the Earth from space, visibly emotional. “Still processing this incredible journey,” she added.
Though she previously admitted to regretting making a spectacle out of the trip in the immediate backlash, Perry seems to have since leaned into it, using it as creative fuel for her new tour. The Lifetimes tour, she’s hinted, is about embracing the surreal, the futuristic, and the fearless—fitting for someone who’s actually seen the Earth from above.
Speaking to ELLE ahead of the flight, Perry revealed that while science was at the heart of the mission, glamour was not forgotten. “Space is going to finally be glam,” she laughed. “Let me tell you something. If I could take glam up with me, I would do that. We are going to put the ‘ass’ in astronaut.”
Indeed, the stage in Mexico City delivered on that promise. Each costume was more dazzling than the last, with reflective fabrics, LED-lit wings, and even a disco-helmet moment. Concertgoers raved about the visuals, comparing the experience to a “pop opera in orbit.”
The tour will continue through Latin America before moving to Europe and North America this summer. And if the first night is anything to go by, Perry fans can expect a full-throttle journey through music, memory, and meteor showers.
