Tim Dillon accuses Meghan of exploiting victim status despite royal riches in Fox News interview

Meghan Markle has come under fire once again, this time from American comedian Tim Dillon, who accused her of “playing the victim while living in a castle”. In a scathing takedown aired during an interview with Fox News, Dillon mocked the Duchess of Sussex’s portrayal of hardship, calling her ascent to global fame “comedic”.

The 43-year-old duchess, who stepped down from royal duties alongside Prince Harry in 2020, has faced persistent backlash for her public narrative about life within the British monarchy. Dillon, 40, was the latest to weigh in—and he didn’t hold back.

Speaking candidly, the comedian dismissed Meghan’s claims of being sidelined by the Royal Family and questioned her motives. “There was real currency in being a victim when she rose to prominence,” he said, implying she capitalised on the cultural trend of victimhood for public sympathy and media traction.

Dillon didn’t shy away from sarcasm. “She became a victim living in a castle married to a prince with the royal wedding, and I thought that was very funny,” he said with a smirk. The line, aimed squarely at the perceived contradictions in Meghan’s public image, hit a nerve among royal watchers and critics alike.

He added, “I think she’s a great comedic actress,” pointing to what he believes is an intentional crafting of her public persona. “It would have been hard to pull off—but she did it, to her credit,” he said, noting how most people claiming victimhood during that era were not members of the world’s most famous royal family.

The pair’s permanent move to California five years ago was seen by some as a quest for freedom, while others viewed it as a calculated rebranding. According to Dillon, Meghan’s narrative falls squarely in the latter camp.

Dillon then turned his attention to Prince Harry, suggesting the Duke of Sussex may have been swept up in Meghan’s direction. “Harry seems like he’s kind of been led around,” Dillon observed. “He kind of doesn’t know what’s going on… It’s probably all an adventure for him, right?”

The comedian’s remarks sparked renewed debate about the authenticity of the couple’s public image, especially in the wake of Meghan’s recent podcast revelations. On her show, Confessions of a Female Founder, Meghan revealed she had struggled with guilt surrounding wealth since childhood—a comment some critics saw as an attempt to appear more relatable.

Branding expert Doug Eldridge joined the criticism, labelling Meghan “terribly authentic” in a scathing review of her self-presentation. “This was a tactic to try and become more relatable to her audience, but you can’t fake authenticity,” Eldridge told Fox News. “You either have it or you don’t. This has been an ongoing struggle for her.”

Since their departure from the royal fold, Harry and Meghan have often courted controversy through media appearances, documentaries, and interviews. But Dillon’s raw comedic assault has added a new layer of American critique to a saga that continues to divide public opinion on both sides of the Atlantic.

The royal couple has not responded to Dillon’s comments.
