An 18‑year‑old Indian student at Northumbria admits to breaking into a peer’s room and masturbating on toys
Newcastle, 24 June 2025 — An 18‑year‑old Indian civil engineering student at Northumbria University has received a 14‑month suspended prison sentence for a deeply disturbing act inside a female undergraduate’s university accommodation during the Christmas holidays.
The student, Udkarsh Yadav, exploited a malfunctioning gym keycard that unlocked every door in the block. He used it to access a fellow student’s bedroom, where he proceeded to masturbate and ejaculate on her bedcover and three Jellycat teddy bears.
When the student returned to her dorm in January, she noticed a suspicious “crusty white residue” on her bedding and toys. Forensic tests later confirmed that the substance was semen, matching Yadav’s DNA.

At Newcastle Crown Court, the judge handed him a 14-month prison sentence, suspended for two years. The punishment also includes 200 hours of unpaid community service, rehabilitation sessions, and a £117 compensation payment to the victim for damage to personal property.
University officials took immediate action by fixing the faulty keycard system and relocating Yadav to different accommodation. Disciplinary proceedings are now underway, with expulsion reportedly being considered.
As an international student, Yadav’s conviction could have further consequences. His student visa is now under review, and he could face deportation to India.
The incident has sparked concerns over student safety and campus housing privacy, highlighting the urgent need for secure access systems and greater oversight of accommodation facilities.
