The Duke’s trip follows King Charles and Queen Camilla’s recent state visit and includes Canada Day events

Prince Edward is set to embark on a seven-day royal tour of Canada next week, just months after King Charles and Queen Camilla made their own high-profile visit to the Commonwealth nation.

Buckingham Palace has confirmed that the Duke of Edinburgh will travel from 25 June to 2 July 2025, covering engagements in Prince Edward Island, Toronto and Ottawa. The trip will blend military commemorations, Indigenous outreach, youth engagement, and public service recognition, culminating in Canada Day celebrations in the capital.

The 61-year-old royal, who holds the honorary title of Colonel-in-Chief of The Prince Edward Island Regiment, will take part in events marking the regiment’s 150th anniversary. These include a Freedom of the City parade and a series of tributes to Canadian armed forces, highlighting his long-standing connection to the country’s military.

During his time on Prince Edward Island, Edward will visit the Abegweit First Nation and attend an education forum bringing together representatives from all four Atlantic provinces. He is also expected to meet local youth organisations and community leaders as part of his broader commitment to young people.

The Duke’s itinerary reflects a strong focus on reconciliation and outreach to Indigenous communities—a key theme of the Royal Family’s recent engagements in Canada. The royal visit follows King Charles’s own landmark speech during the opening of the Canadian Parliament earlier this year, where he became only the second monarch to address the assembly in such a manner, after Queen Elizabeth II in 1957 and 1977.

In Toronto, Edward’s schedule includes visits to the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment, HMCS York naval reserve unit, and Canadian Forces Base Trenton. As Colonel-in-Chief of these regiments, his presence will underline royal recognition of their service and dedication.

He will also visit Christ Church, His Majesty’s Chapel Royal of the Mohawk, located in Ontario. As the oldest surviving church in the province and the first Protestant place of worship in Upper Canada, the chapel holds deep historical significance. The visit underscores the royal family’s continued engagement with Canada’s Indigenous heritage.

His Royal Highness will also acknowledge local public service efforts by meeting members of the Toronto Police Service’s Marine Unit and Emergency Task Force—an opportunity to honour frontline workers and their contributions to community safety.

The tour will conclude in Ottawa on 1 July, when the Duke of Edinburgh joins Canada Day celebrations and visits the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. In his capacity as Honorary Deputy Commissioner, Edward is expected to participate in ceremonial proceedings and interact with serving officers.

He will also champion the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, a global youth development programme which has been operating in Canada since 1963. The initiative, inspired by his late father Prince Philip, remains close to Edward’s heart. During the visit, he will meet award recipients and supporters, showcasing the programme’s enduring role in empowering Canadian youth.

The Duke last visited Canada in April 2023, when he travelled to Toronto and Vancouver. His return this month reflects his deep and continued ties with the country.

This latest visit also follows Prince Edward’s recent role representing the Royal Family at the inaugural mass of Pope Leo, further cementing his position as a senior working royal trusted with major international and faith-related duties.

With Canada maintaining a central place in the Crown’s Commonwealth commitments, Prince Edward’s visit reaffirms royal dedication to the country’s diverse communities, its armed forces, and the next generation of leaders.
