A Whopping Bill Breakdown

Diners at Salt Bae’s Nusr-Et Dubai were shocked when they received a bill totaling AED398,630 (£85,000) for their culinary experience. The breakdown showcased the indulgent choices, featuring a £60 beef carpaccio, three golden steaks priced at £1,100 each, and a golden filet mignon at £240. Even a seemingly ordinary portion of chips came with a staggering £10.70 price tag.

Lavish Pairing and Tips Galore

To accompany their meaty selection, the diners opted for four Porn Star Martinis at £100 and three bottles of premium wine, including two Chateau Petrus 2009 and one Petrus 2011, amounting to a jaw-dropping £56,000. The grand finale of the meal included a round of exclusive Louis XIII cognac, setting them back another £6,000. Notably, the bill also reflected a generous tip of £19,000.

Social Media Outcry

Salt Bae, real name Nusret Gokce, didn’t escape backlash after shamelessly posting the extravagant bill on his Instagram, where he boasts a massive following of 54 million. Locals and social media users, particularly from his home country Turkey, expressed outrage, deeming it insensitive given the economic challenges faced by many Turks.

“Money Comes, Money Goes”

Salt Bae’s nonchalant caption on the post – “Money comes, money goes” – further fueled the controversy. The brazen display of opulence didn’t sit well with critics who slammed the chef for being out of touch with the financial struggles of ordinary citizens.

Turkish Outrage and Accusations:

Turkish newspaper Yenicag accused Salt Bae of flaunting his wealth while citizens grapple with economic hardships, citing a three-cent minimum wage and soaring inflation. The stark contrast between the exorbitant dining experience and the economic realities faced by many struck a nerve with the public.

History of High Prices

This isn’t the first time Salt Bae’s restaurants have faced scrutiny for their extravagant prices. In a previous incident, a food blogger spent a staggering £3,722 for a meal at Nusr-Et, featuring an £804 steak and an £80 serving of spaghetti. The exorbitant prices have drawn criticism, with some users calling it “overpriced garbage.”

Net Worth and Global Empire

Salt Bae rose to fame for his viral salt-sprinkling technique, amassing a net worth of £64 million. His restaurant chain, Nusr-Et, boasts over 20 locations worldwide, spanning Turkey, Greece, the US, the UK, UAE, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia.

As Salt Bae’s culinary empire continues to expand, the controversy surrounding the extravagant bill raises questions about the boundaries of luxury dining and the responsibility of celebrity chefs in an era of economic challenges for many.
